Deities Take Their Posts
Gods were no longer seen as mere symbols of natural forces. They often took on human names and forms, even occupying ranks and official positions within a celestial hierarchy. As they entered stories and history, they came to embody ideals of order in traditional culture—serving as moral guides for human behavior.

Moon and Stars: A Digital Installation of the Twenty-Eight Mansions
This installation draws inspiration from The Five Planets and Twenty-eight Constellations, by Ding Guanpeng of the Qing dynasty in the NPM’s collection. Through digital technology, visitors can observe the Moon traversing the night sky alongside the Twenty-eight Constellations—each with distinct forms and personalities. This celestial choreography reflects how ancient observers interpreted the cosmos, establishing systems of timekeeping and calendrical order, thereby transforming the universe into a comprehensible and navigable world.
