Description
This work was crafted by joining several pieces of wood, from which the head, ears, tail, and limbs were finely carved. The antlers were crafted from branches, with only slight embellishment, while the body was pieced together from several burls, with the natural grain of the wood used to depict the texture of fur. The deer holds a sprig of lingzhi carved from wood in its mouth, and stands atop a wooden stand in the form of mountain rocks, which was also crafted from burls. This dynamic work has clean, simple lines, and astutely captures the image of a lithe, agile deer frolicking among mountain rocks.
