Description

This peach stem-style ruyi scepter was carved from a single piece of agarwood, and the handle is adorned with a naturalistic carving of a peach stem. A small vase made of white jade is affixed to the end of the ruyi scepter, from which the carving of the peach stem springs forth and winds up the handle of the ruyi scepter, with inlaid natural pearls designed to depict peaches. The head of the ruyi scepter is decorated with openwork carvings of stems and leaves, as well as two inlaid peach fruits carved from white jade. Between the two jade peaches, two small pearl peaches are inlaid. The design and motif of this work are quite ingenious, and inlay techniques are cleverly used to create a complementary effect between the different materials used.
