Experiencing the Voyage

By conducting in-depth research of the historical Tong-an ship, Rebuilding the Tong-an Ships VR installation reconstructs the splendor of the vessel from "Diagram of the Tongan Ship Ji" and related documents in the Qing historical archive, allowing users to relive the experience of sailing aboard the three-hundred-year-old Chinese ship.

Rebuilding the Tongan Ships VR Installation

This VR installation rebuilds the central structures of the Tong-an ship, such as the flying Dutch flag from the front mast, the tell-tales installed on the main and rear mast for detecting the direction of the wind, as well as frames, cabinets, embrasures, and a "Narcissus door," the side entrance of the ship. It adopts a game-like interface and features an audio-guide which introduces the size of the Tong-an ship and its various components, enabling users to gain comprehensive knowledge of the ancient Chinese vessel.
