Biographies

The National Palace Museum holds a large number of biographies of Qing dynasty figures, including drafts, biographical packets, compilations edited by the Qing dynasty State Historiography Institute and the Institute of the History of the Qing (Qingshi guan) of the early Republican era, and court manuscripts written in red-lined columns presented to the emperor. All these materials record the biographical information and achievements of eminent figures and officials of central and local governments. They come in many different forms - anecdotes, records of conduct, résumés, chronologies, collected writings, palace memorials, obituaries, etc. These files are treasure troves for students of Qing dynasty personages and illustrate the criteria according to which the Qing government assessed its officials.

Draft Biography of Ding Baozhen

Ding Baozhen (1820-1886), also named Zhihuang, Guizhou Pingyuan people. He is promoted scholar in Xianfeng three year (1853), served as the prefect of Hunan Yuezhou, Changsha prefect, Shandong surveillance commissioner, governor, grand coordinator and governor-general of Sichuan. He had involved in the put down the Miao people, destroy the white lotus society and suppress the bandits and other turmoil. Tongzhi eight years (1869), Empress Dowager Cixi darling eunuch-An Dehai security and safety violations out of Beijing. He lied to do something privately to Shandong. Ding Baozhen trial him and beheaded him in Jinan. Ding became famous at that time. Baozhen is committed to rectify salt business, repair river, renovated army. He died when he was still working in Guangxu twelve years (1886), the pursuit of Prince Edward Tai Bao title, posthumous title - Wen Cheng, moved into the virtuous temple, and permitted to build temple sacrifice in Sichuan, Shandong and Guizhou.
