Description

The Jadeite Cabbage is one of the most beloved artifacts in the collection of the National Palace Museum. The craftsman skillfully utilized the natural coloration of jadeite, using the green hues to depict the layered cabbage leaves and transforming the white section into a fresh, water-laden stalk. At the top of the leaves, a katydid and a locust were intricately designed, evoking a vivid pastoral scene. Originally housed in the Palace of Eternal Harmony, a residence of Imperial Noble Consort Wenjing during the late Qing dynasty, it is speculated that the Jadeite Cabbage was part of her dowry, symbolizing blessings for a prosperous lineage.
