Description
This wooden jewelry box features inlay techniques on all sides, using turquoise, lazurite, jades, coral, and tourmaline to create patterns known as “polychrome inlay.” The front of the lid depicts a literatus and a child standing under a pine tree watching another child release birds from a cage in a garden. This depiction may have been inspired by Su Shi’s “A Record of Releasing Cranes.” The sides of the box are inlaid with various flowers and plants crafted from jades and jewelries.
