Description
Copper-bodied Luduan, a beast known for its vast knowledge and unyielding integrity, is the shape of this copper-bodied vessel. According to the “Records of Auspicious Omens” in the Book of Song, Luduan can travel 18,000 li in a day and understands all languages. When a wise ruler reigns, Luotuo will bring him books for the ruler to understand all things in the outside world. Thus, Luduan symbolizes political enlightenment and allegiance from the rest of the world. The mane from the beast’s head to the neck serves as the lid, whereas the beast’s body forms the vessel, with the mouth of the vessel being slightly constricted. The interior of the vessel is coated with a light blue glaze, and the head is painted on a blue background with facial features, topped with a red horn. The beast’s mouth is slightly open, showing its teeth, and its neck is encircled with a copper-cast mane. The beast’s body is white, with the front to the belly painted in red, blue, and green to depict body features, highlighted with gold accents and blue ruyi-shaped cloud patterns on both sides and the back. The beast’s feet are red, with white glaze depicting its claws.
