Instated in 1965 at its current location Waishuangxi, Taipei, the National Palace Museum (NPM) houses over seven hundred thousand national treasures. Following technological advancement, in recent years, the NPM has produced many creative new media art exhibitions inspired from its imperial collection and developed innovative visuals, reproductions, and designs to bring artifacts closer to the public. Traditionally untouchable and austere, artifacts in NPM's collection are now rendered approachable. Through showcasing NPM-produced films, models, and installations, NPM in Taiwan: Innovating Art with Technology Special Exhibition tells the story of how NPM's innovative applications play a part in educational outreach efforts across Taiwan and all over the world . The new media exhibition mode certainly offers more flexibility than traditional, glass-case exhibitions but is by no means lesser in style and quality. Expect to experience what you have never experienced before.

    Promotional Outcomes

Technological conservation and restoration methods preserve ancient artifacts for people to enjoy . Innovating Visuals: Adventures in the NPM Series

Look at me! Yes, look at me. You are about to hop on the Tong-an Ship, a historic vessel that sailed the seas between Taiwan and the mainland, and enter the paintings Kunyu Quantu and Immortal Blossoms of an Everlasting Spring. On the way, Child Pillow will guide you to see Fort Zeelandia, the Sun Moon Lake, and aboriginal settlements across Taiwan.

     Innovating Artifacts: Tong-an Ship Model

    Innovating Artifacts: Tong-an Ship Model

NPM researchers cooperated with local craftsmen to create a 3D Tong-an ship scale model based on the obscure blueprint found in the Qing historical archive. Feel free to do a double take and take all the photos you want of this artifact reproduction.

     Innovating Education: 3D Printing Demo

    Innovating Education: 3D Printing Demo

3D printing takes NPM's educational innovation to the next level. Not only do physical copies of artifact animation characters stimulate audience imagination but also act as fine tools in the museum's outreach efforts. This exhibit juxtaposes artifact images with their 3D animated characters. In comparison with the austere and untouchable artifact, 3D animation models are fun and approachable.

     Innovating Design: Cultural Creative Merchandise

    Innovating Design: Cultural Creative Merchandise

Purchasing cultural creative merchandise is the best way to remember a visit. This exhibit showcases popular merchandise based on animated characters. Thanks to the democratization of art in the technological age, treasures once only available to the Qing imperial family are now used as design elements for everyday items. Anyone can handle these modern day curios and experience the cultured contemplation of art shared by generations of emperors.
